Personal AI Workstations Are Closer Than You Think

I've recently been wanting to invest in my own personal AI workstation. The DGX Spark really stands out to me, with 128 GB of RAM designed to handle medium-sized AI models. The only issue, of course, is the price. It jumped all the way to $3,500.

In all seriousness, I can still see this being a very reasonable investment if you have a full-time job. Being able to run 128-billion-parameter models comfortably with no ongoing costs besides the initial purchase and electricity is huge. I'd mainly do it for experimenting with AI inference, pre/post-training, and the opportunity to use a coding agent for free.

Nowadays, subscriptions are already around $200 a month anyway, and they'll likely increase quite a bit over the coming months since many frontier AI companies are losing money at these relatively low prices. I'm extremely excited to see the shift toward local models in the near future, and I hope open-weight models continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible in AI.
